The structure and working principle of photoresistor
Photoresistors, also known as light guides, are almost all optoelectronic devices made of semiconductor materials. The photoresistor has no polarity and is purely a resistive device, which can be applied with either a DC voltage or an AC voltage. When there is no light, the value of the photoresistor (dark resistance) is large, and the current (dark current) in the circuit is small.
When the photoresistor is exposed to light in a certain wavelength range, its resistance (bright resistance) decreases sharply, and the current in the circuit increases rapidly. Generally, it is hoped that the larger the dark resistance, the better, and the smaller the bright resistance, the better. At this time, the sensitivity of the photoresistor is high. The dark resistance value of the actual photoresistor is generally in the megohm level, and the bright resistance is below several thousand ohms. Figure 8-1 shows the principle structure of the photoresistor. It is a thin layer of semiconductor material coated on the glass bottom plate, the two ends of the semiconductor are equipped with metal electrodes, the metal electrodes are connected with the lead-out terminal, and the photoresistor is connected to the circuit through the lead-out terminal. In order to prevent the influence of the surrounding medium, a paint film is covered on the semiconductor photosensitive layer, and the composition of the paint film should make the transmittance maximum in the wavelength range where the photosensitive layer is most sensitive.
