     When the alternating magnetic field generated by the eddy current cannot be ignored, the skin effect caused by the eddy current should be considered.

     Eddy currents in the metal block will be forced by the magnetic field. When the metal block moves relative to the magnetic field, the magnetic force on the eddy current always resists the relative motion, that is, a damping effect is generated, which is called electromagnetic damping, and is often used in the manufacture of electromagnetic dampers and electromagnetic brakes. In some electromagnetic instruments, the damping effect of eddy currents in the aluminum frame of the coil is used to stabilize the coil in the equilibrium position relatively quickly. In a kilowatt-hour meter (ie, a watt-hour meter), a braking magnet is used to induce eddy currents in the aluminum disc, which produces a damping effect to stabilize the rotational speed of the rotating coil. According to the same principle, when the magnetic field rotates, the closed wire or metal conductor placed in the rotating magnetic field generates eddy currents, and the magnetic force it receives resists the relative motion, so it rotates with the magnetic field, but the rotational speed is slightly smaller than that of the rotating magnetic field. This is the principle on which the operation of the induction asynchronous motor and the rotational speed measurement of the magnetic tachometer are based. In the inductive relay, the alternating magnetic field is used to generate eddy current in the metal sheet, and the magnetic force of another alternating magnetic field is used to drive the movement of the metal sheet. A coil is wound on the metal cylinder. When an alternating current is passed through the coil, the metal cylinder is in an alternating magnetic field. Since the resistance of the metal conductor is very small and the eddy current is large, the thermal effect is extremely significant, and it can be used for heating and smelting of metal materials.
