The switching power supply is different from the linear power supply. It controls the turn-off and turn-on of the power tube through the PWM signal, so as to realize the "chopping" of the input DC power, and then step down through the transformer to obtain the DC voltage.
PWM adjusts the voltage, the larger the duty cycle, the higher the voltage, and the smaller the duty cycle, the lower the voltage. The function of the dummy load is to stabilize the output voltage and discharge the residual voltage in the circuit when the power is turned off.
The reason why the output terminal of the switching power supply is connected to a dummy load
In the switching power supply circuit, the output terminal needs to feedback the voltage to the switching power supply control chip. The switching power supply chip automatically adjusts the PWM signal by detecting the feedback voltage, controls the output current, and stabilizes the output voltage at the set value.
Switching power supplies usually use an LC filter circuit at the output. Due to the influence of energy storage elements such as inductors and capacitors, when the switching power supply is not loaded, the output voltage is very unstable, and even increases, resulting in the output voltage being out of control.
