The working principle and characteristics of voltage transformer
1. Working principle
The voltage transformer uses the principle of electromagnetic induction. On the closed iron core, two windings with different turns and mutual insulation are wound. The primary winding N1 is connected to the power supply side, and the secondary winding N2 is the output side.
When a voltage is applied to the primary winding, an alternating current will flow through the winding, and an alternating magnetic flux 1 with the same frequency as the power supply will be generated in the iron core. Since the primary winding and the secondary winding are on the same iron core, according to the law of electromagnetic induction , the induced electromotive force E2 with the same frequency to different values will be generated in the secondary winding. Due to the difference in the number of turns, the induced electromotive force of the two windings is different. The specific numerical relationship is: N1/N2=U1/U2 According to the national standard, the output voltage value of the secondary side of the voltage transformer is 100V.
2. Characteristics of voltage transformers
The primary voltage of the voltage transformer is not affected by the secondary load. The voltage coil impedance of the instrument or relay on the secondary side of the voltage transformer is very large, and the current passing through is very small, so the voltage transformer is close to the no-load state when it is working normally. The secondary side of the voltage transformer cannot be short-circuited, because the secondary side will generate a large short-circuit current after the short-circuit, which will burn the voltage transformer, so generally, the primary and secondary sides of the voltage transformer are equipped with fuses for short-circuit protection.
