Why do batteries need float charge and equalization charge?
Floating charging: a supply (discharge) working method of the battery pack, the battery pack and the power line are connected in parallel to the load circuit, the charging voltage is generally constant, only slightly higher than the voltage of the battery pack, determined by the power line. A small amount of current is supplied to compensate for the loss of the local action of the battery pack, so that it can always be kept in a fully charged state without overcharging. During normal operation, the charging device supplements the battery while bearing the regular load to compensate for the self-discharge of the battery, so that the battery pack is in standby at full capacity. Advantages of floating charging: It is good for prolonging the life of the battery and preventing premature aging of the battery. The bad thing is that the charging time is relatively long. Therefore, float charging is generally selected for normal operation.
Equalizing Charge: Charge the battery with a constant current and a fixed time, and the charge is faster. The charging voltage is larger than float charging. Equalizing charging is the charging that compensates for the uneven voltage of the battery during use and restores it to a specified range, as well as the wave recharging after large-capacity discharge, commonly known as equalizing charging. Because the batteries are connected in series, the float current through each battery is exactly the same; however, the self-discharge and internal resistance of each battery cannot be exactly the same, and the charging efficiency of the battery will be reduced by a period of floating charge or storage or discharge. If it is impossible to be completely consistent, some batteries will be insufficiently charged, so equalization charging is also required. Advantages of equalizing charge: This mode is also conducive to activating the chemical characteristics of the battery. When there is a deviation in the individual battery voltage, the deviation is eliminated, and the voltage of each battery tends to be balanced.
